Happiness is a spider?

I'm terrified of spiders.

The tiniest of spiders has me running for the hills or at least the nearest chair/bed/stool.

However, I came across this picture and didn't realize that it is a spider. I thought it was some sort of doll.

Seriously, I looks like it's smiling at me.

Happiness

When I think back over things that have brought me lots of happiness, my study trip overseas tops the list.

Despite my severe depression/jetlag for the first week in London, the time was still incredible and tears come to my eyes when I think of that month. Happy tears mind you.

Sometimes, I send myself to bed early so I can sleep through the sadness.

The trick is to fall asleep before the sadness catches you.

Because, if it catches you, it makes the next day, the next chance at a better time, that much farther away.

Guess

I've been confused this week about a certain pair of jeans. I couldn't find them. At all.

I checked all the usual places, it was as if they just disappeared.

Then today, while doing laundry, I find them in the dryer.

So, at work there's a dry erase board where someone wrote "pennies matter."

Is it wrong that everytime I pass by it, I see "penises matter" and giggle?

Sometime in my old apartment on 38th Avenue, Hattiesburg, 2008.

Night flowers

I assumed he was admiring my garden, the first night I met him. He would upturn each night-blooming flower, turning each between his fingers.

While admiring flowers isn't out of the ordinary, my garden grew right outside the door of my second floor apartment. And my garden was less of a garden and more of a mixture of containers and pots of various plants that condescended to grow for me.

I was unsure as I stood awkwardly on the second landing, keys hanging from my fingers.
I took a deep breath to speak, but he must have heard me, because he turned to me and smiled.

"You have a lovely garden," his voice was faintly accented, from where I'm not sure.

I thanked him and made some modest show of saying that the garden was small (because it was) and that there were many more things I wanted to grow (because there were).

He made a sound somewhere between an inward laugh and an affirmative grunt. He glanced over the flowers again before nodding to me and wishing me a good night.
As he walked away, I fumbled with my keys, watching him leave yet also trying to get inside.

Once inside, I locked the door, not out of fear, but out of habit. I found that at no time did I feel fear of this stranger, only curiosity. I pulled my window open a crack and snuggled into bed, drifting to sleep with the smell of night blooming jasmine lingering around me.

Bah, I watch too much drama/mystery/romance/weird TV. :P
Just a little something that was bouncing in my head and refused to leave me alone until I typed it out.

And tonight's photo... is not night blooming jasmine, but a Peruvian daffodil I coaxed into blooming for me while staying at my parents one summer. It didn't come back the next year though. Perhaps, it knew that I had left.

Thirteen, seven and five

The 13th of each month is a fun inside joke day for Manon and I.

We've been best friends and very close for seven years.

Leon is a little over five years old.

The risks of cooking and gardening

It's an overcast day, it rained a bit... and everyone has spontaneously forgotten how to drive.

I want to get some gardening done, but I need to get rocks and a broom first. And my super, duper fruity punch thingy can't be made without a peeler.

Perhaps, I'll risk my life and run out to purchase these items later.

Ok, so I've decided to add my own photography to this blog as well.

With some motivation, and a kick in the butt, I'll get this blog updated regularly.

Grilling

What's pretty funny to me is watching people grill.

I was trying out my apartment's pool and watching a guy across the way begin to grill.

Poised with lighter fluid in hand, you can see the gears turning in his head.

One side says, "I think that's enough lighter fluid. If I put in anymore, it'll burn everything."

The other side says, "I am man. I control fire. Needs more fire!"

And then watch, for as soon as he adds more fluid, a cloud of flame rises up to meet him.

He wasn't injured or anything, but he did have a sheepish grin on his face.

Music calms the beast

One thing that can always calm and soothe me is the sound of a violin.
Used to play one, yet school got in the way. So, my violin sits patiently in storage, waiting for the day I open her back up and play again.
